"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. When we stick to the pure Word of God, we'll never be misled by any voice. The Word of God is the Word of God, coming from the very heart and mouth of God, spoken to His people in different times and places. Remember, he used Scripture in his attempt to tempt and derail Jesus while our Lord was fasting (see Luke 4:1-13 Matthew 4:1-11).įriend, I suggest you read the Word of God and let it speak to you more than any voice in the world, including your own. Another factor you have to consider is that Satan is out there trying to confuse all the believers with his half-truths. Keep in mind that our minds have the capacity to mess up what we have read in the Bible, and mix it with our own desires. ![]() Supposing you hear a spiritual-sounding message spoken to you, biblical jargon included, ask yourself: 'Does it go contrary to or in support of what the Word of God says?' Rather, take some time to check the message and its motive. Whatever you hear, decide not to automatically obey or believe it at first sign. Check the message and the motive behind it 1 John 4:1 further instructs us, "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God because many false prophets have gone out into the world."Ģ. We shouldn't be critical of everything, but we shouldn't be naïve either. Jeremiah 17:9 says our hearts are deceitful above all things, and thus we should not trust it. Here are a few tips on how to distinguish God's voice from your own: Some might say "you'll know it if it's God speaking to you." But really, how do you know? Both God and Satan's voice seem to sound like our own inside our heads, and unless we know how to distinguish them, we're sure to be misled at times. The Bible says the "heart is deceitful above all things" (see Jeremiah 17:9), and because of this we find it harder to distinguish our voice from the Lord's. While Satan's voice is in clear opposition to God, ours is different. If the Word of God contradicts it, then don't believe it.ĭistinguishing God's voice from our own, however, is a totally different thing. Best of all, check that voice in light of the Word of God. When you get to hear a certain voice, check if the nature of the message, no matter how soft-spoken the voice may be, is reflective of God's nature or not. Satan, on the other hand, is a liar, murderer and condemning. One of the most helpful criteria to use would be that of their nature: God is loving, true and freeing. God's voice is very different from Satan's in many ways. ![]() There are some giveaways that we need to be on the lookout for to be able to distinguish His voice from others. But He died in our place so we could be free from the power of sin and live eternally with Him.God's voice is clearly distinct from the many voices that we hear each day. It is simply inconsistent with God’s Word to attribute every thought that goes through your mind to God or to the devil. We have a multitude of thoughts within us each and every dayand most of what goes on in your head is just you. It was not a pleasant life by earthly standards and in the end, His death was undeserved, brutal, and gory. God has created us to think, to plan, to dream, and to imagine. We know that Jesus left heaven to live here on earth for 33 years so our sin could be paid for. His precious thoughts toward us are so many that they can only be numbered by the grains of sand…and then some!īut we often believe the same lie. It is ludicrous isn’t it? The truth is that GOD loves us more than we can imagine. Here they were in this beautiful garden with everything they could ever want, and they believed his lie for long enough to disobey. He was just trying to make their lives unpleasant by telling them they couldn’t eat from that one tree. How often do we picture GOD as someone sitting in heaven, waiting for us to mess up so He can pounce on us? But that view of Him is a lie from Hell! That is the view Satan tried to sell Adam and Eve, isn’t it? He tried to tell them that GOD didn’t care about them. Is He sitting in heaven waiting for us to mess up? NO! I know how mixed even the good things I do are… but that is a story for another day. I think the reason is because I know all the hidden motives of my own heart. I can’t think that many positive, loving thoughts toward myself! It is often easier to list more positive things about others than about myself. To think that His precious thoughts toward you and me could be that many? Not only that, but His precious thoughts toward me would take all the grains of sand to count! Can you even imagine that? I can’t. ![]() He knows it, and has known it from the very beginning. There is not one part of our frame that is hidden from Him. He knows every detail of how we are made down to the last mole, imperfection and quirk inside and out. He is the One who has known us since before anyone could see us…while we were still in the womb and being developed. It is a beautiful reminder of how GOD sees us. This whole chapter in the Psalms is beautiful.
